Let’s not forget about science!<\/h2>\n

\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\"\"\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n

It never fails.\u00a0 Whenever I ask a young student what his\/her favorite subject is (besides recess, of course) the student almost always says science.\u00a0 Rocks, mammals, plants, photosynthesis, chemistry, and especially experiments hold great value for our kids.<\/p>\n

Sadly, science today has turned into reading a book and answering questions on a test.\u00a0 Usually, these same kids who told me they love science are failing it.\u00a0 That\u2019s because their reading skills are usually low, not their ability to process information in a scientific manner.<\/p>\n

This past weekend Morgan, my three year old granddaughter spent the weekend with me.\u00a0 \u201cSalt and pepper,\u201d she told me, reaching for a bowl.<\/p>\n

I knew exactly what she wanted.\u00a0 We do a fun little science experiment whenever we can.\u00a0 I got out a bowl and filled it with water.\u00a0 Then I handed her a salt and pepper shaker.\u00a0 She shook the salt.\u00a0 She shook the pepper.\u00a0 Then she demanded, \u201cSoap!\u201d\u00a0 I put a squirt of dish washing soap (like Dawn) on her little finger and she dipped her finger in the middle of the bowl.\u00a0 Then, she screamed with delight when the salt and pepper performed their \u201cmagic\u201d.<\/p>\n

This summer, take an afternoon, a minute, anything you can and find some time to do some hands on experiments with your child.\u00a0 It doesn\u2019t have to be elaborate.\u00a0 Morgan has done this same experiment several times and is still delighted with it every time. \u00a0With the internet, you can quickly find some easy, fun experiments, and this will help any child with learning issues.\u00a0 Most of these kids are hands on learners who are failing because they don\u2019t get to do much that is hands on anymore.<\/p>\n
