Skip counting – good for maths and auditory processing problems!<\/h2>\n

Did you know than mental math is actually an auditory processing skill?\u00a0 So many kids who struggle with math actually have an auditory processing issue, which prevents them from succeeding in not only reading, spelling, and writing, but in math as well.<\/p>\n

That is why we spend so much time with skip counting at our centers.\u00a0 So, what exactly is skip counting?\u00a0 It is where you count by 2\u2019s, 3\u2019s, 4\u2019s, etc.<\/p>\n

We make sure to add a physical component to help students \u201cset\u201d in the skip counting.\u00a0 For instance, we will have the student jump on a trampoline, stand on a balance board, play a ball game, or sit on an exercise ball and bounce while counting.<\/p>\n

To start skip counting, be sure to use the \u201ceasy\u201d ones first.\u00a0 For instance, students usually do well with 2\u2019s, 5\u2019s, and 10\u2019s.<\/p>\n

Once those are mastered, you can move on to 3\u2019s.\u00a0 When 3\u2019s are mastered, move to 4\u2019s and so on. If the student struggles with the more difficult number sets, you can write them out and hang them on the wall until they are memorized and comfortable for the student.<\/p>\n

This really helps students master multiplication facts as well, so you are getting a triple whammy with this game!<\/p>\n
