{"id":1043,"date":"2021-04-30T16:13:27","date_gmt":"2021-04-30T14:13:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dyslexiasa.org\/?p=1043"},"modified":"2021-04-30T16:14:41","modified_gmt":"2021-04-30T14:14:41","slug":"is-it-an-auditory-processing-issue","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dyslexiasa.org\/?p=1043","title":{"rendered":"Is it an Auditory Processing Issue?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>is it an auditory processing issue?<\/h2>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"655\" src=\"http:\/\/dyslexiasa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Cute-baby-with-bigg-headphones-768x655-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" srcset=\"http:\/\/dyslexiasa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Cute-baby-with-bigg-headphones-768x655-1.jpg 768w, http:\/\/dyslexiasa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Cute-baby-with-bigg-headphones-768x655-1-300x256.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>At one point in time, it was generally thought that dyslexia was primarily a visual issue, but new research indicates that dyslexia also has an auditory component as well.\u00a0 Just like a student can see the word \u201csaw\u201d as \u201cwas\u201d, the student can also hear it in the same way.\u00a0 This makes learning and communication tough!<\/p>\n<p>If your child has dyslexia with an auditory component, then it is difficult for him\/her to maneuver through not only a classroom, but through life.\u00a0 We are dependent on auditory processing skills for even the most basic relationships.\u00a0 That is why temper problems often accompany a student with auditory processing problems.\u00a0 It is so frustrating to communicate when you can\u2019t process the information correctly!<\/p>\n<p>There is a lot that can be done to help a student with auditory processing problems.\u00a0 Following are a few tips that you can do with your child or student to help this problem.<\/p>\n<p>* Limit oral directions to one at a time.\u00a0 Telling your student to do more than one or two things at once can be confusing.<\/p>\n<p>* Play the \u201canimal\u201d game.\u00a0 You start by naming an animal that starts with the letter a.\u00a0 Then your child or student is to name your animal and then an animal that starts with the next letter, b.\u00a0 Next, you name both animals already named and then an animal that starts with the letter c.\u00a0 The student continues, naming all animals named so far plus the next letter in the alphabet.\u00a0 Continue as far as you can and the next time you play, try to go for longer stretches until the entire alphabet is used up.\u00a0 (finding an \u201cn\u201d animal is difficult!)<\/p>\n<p>* I love the game Simon for students with auditory issues.\u00a0 They get a sound sequence as well as a visual sequence.
