I was reading a blog that caught my interest, and the post literally brought tears to my eyes.\u00a0 I wanted to share it with you.\u00a0 This is written by a mother of an autistic child, although I don\u2019t know her name to give her proper credit, her blog is \u201cOur Autism Blog\u201d, and the name she uses is Emzamy. She can be found on WordPress.<\/p>\n
Although this mother writes about her autistic child, I urge you to transfer these words and feelings to any student who has a learning difference, whether it is autism or dyslexia, or anything in between.<\/p>\n
Here is her post, which I feel honored to have found.<\/p>\n
\u201cEveryday I try to see the world through her eyes.<\/p>\n
To see through her confused senses.<\/p>\n
I try, so hard,everyday\u2026but I know I can\u2019t come anywhere near to imagining how hard it is for her.<\/p>\n
I can only imagine:<\/strong><\/p>\n How seeing hurts her eyes.<\/p>\n How from the moment she wakes the colours are so bright they burn.<\/p>\n How it can all get so much her vision temporarily switches off.<\/p>\n How the colours bleed into each other.<\/p>\n I can only imagine:<\/strong><\/p>\n How hearing hurts her ears.<\/p>\n The sounds banging on her ear drums.<\/p>\n How she hears so many sounds at once that she can\u2019t pick out each one.<\/p>\n How it merges into one constant loud noise.<\/p>\n How it can make her drop to her knees, hands over her ears.<\/p>\n How so very loud it is\u2026how she cannot bear loud noises, but she is the loudest person I know!<\/p>\n I can only imagine:<\/strong><\/p>\n Hou touch can be so painful.<\/p>\n The pain of wearing clothes, the fabrics gnawing at your skin.<\/p>\n How light touch can cause pain, a simple hug unbearable.<\/p>\n How she can\u2019t feel a dislocation, but a label or seam drives her to distraction.<\/p>\n How when she feels hot, she wants to wear a coat.<\/p>\n How so very painful it can be.<\/p>\n I can only imagine:<\/strong><\/p>\n How her sense of smell rules her mind.<\/p>\n How the slightest of smells can set her nostrils alight.<\/p>\n How she can smell cooking 2 streets down, How the smell of the meat counter in a supermarket can be enough to cause a meltdown.<\/p>\n How overwhelming the world becomes.<\/p>\n I can only imagine:<\/strong><\/p>\n How much taste fuels her thoughts.<\/p>\n How she feels the impulse to lick and taste everything.<\/p>\n How hard it is to resist.<\/p>\n New textures there to be explored.<\/p>\n Food in, food out, hands in.<\/p>\n How tempting things are.<\/p>\n I simply can\u2019t imagine.<\/strong><\/p>\n I can try.<\/p>\n I will never understand completely.<\/p>\n I can only be there for her.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Just to be her for one day,<\/p>\n Just to experience what she does.<\/p>\n Just so I could make things easier for her.\u201d<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Today, stop and think about how your child or student might perceive the world, and please, just imagine\u2026<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Best wishes,<\/p>\n Lisa<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" I was reading a blog that caught my interest, and the post literally brought tears to my eyes.
